The US Secretary of Agriculture paid us a visit...
Last Thursday, June 15th, we were excited and honored to welcome US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to our Food Hub for a tour and press release. Secretary Vilsack traveled to Manchester to announce an investment from the Biden administration that will help support small and medium-sized farming ventures in more rural areas throughout New England. While the funding that NH received will go to the construction of a hydroponic greenhouse in Berlin, NH, we were very proud that Secretary Vilsack came to the food hub to learn from the Fresh Start Farmers and to get a small glimpse of the work we do.
Fresh Start Farmers Sylvain, Amisa, and Alice showed off some of their beautiful produce and did a great job sharing about their roles as New American farmers and answering Secretary Vilsack’s questions. Our program director Sarah gave him a tour of the food hub, and ORIS executive director Mukhtar spoke to the press about our organization. It was a huge team effort to make it all happen! You can read more about the Secretary’s announcement in The Boston Globe, The Concord Monitor, or NHPR.
