Warm weather and still no frost means the farmers continue picking peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, and even some zucchini and summer squash! Isha, pictured below harvesting pumpkin leaves destined for the NH Food Bank, said she is tired from the long season, but happy to still be harvesting and selling food.
Sylvain, showing off his incredible red peppers, said that this season was generally a good one for him. Unlike many other farms that experienced flooding, the extra rain generally helped the Fresh Start farmers to keep their plots watered and crops happy. The vegetables generally did well. Sylvain, like a number of the Fresh Start farmers, has a full-time job in addition to running his farm. He built a second greenhouse this past year, so he has to put in even more hours at the farm. Sylvain said, “As always we were so busy, but we always find a way to make it work.”
This week, you’ll get to enjoy another full harvest from the Fresh Start farmers as well as organic sweet potato fingerlings and pinto gold & pink organic potatoes from Picadilly Farm, garlic from Warner farm, and a restock of ecologically grown apples and pears from Champlain Orchards.
